"For all of us, becoming indigenous to a place means living as if your children's future mattered, to take care of the land as if our lives, both material and spiritual, depended on it." - Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
What's in a Ring?
As a young girl I would often dream of my perfect wedding. I had a set of plans for every season, so I wouldn't have to wait when I found the right person. Of course my dresses, menu, venue, and anything to do with a wedding would change as I got older. But one thing remained the same, the ring. Yes, I knew exactly what I wanted. It had to be white gold, or platinum, and if those were too expensive I'd even settle for sterling silver. As long as it wasn't yellow gold! For some reason I never liked how it looked on me. I seriously can't even recall why. But I just knew what I wanted. Haha...I also thought I'd be married by twenty one, no later than twenty five because that's old.
At the ripe age of thirty my best friend of 4 years, turned boyfriend of three months, asked me to marry him. The proposal was magical...
Greg custom designed my engagement ring and wedding band with such thoughtfulness. The main diamond was from an earring of his late grandmother. He patterned the waves after my mother's Maori heritage. My favorite touch is the yellow gold plated on the waves. The thought behind this was so I could interchange any type of jewelry I wore with out clashing. Like I said, thoughtful.
I know of women being disappointed in the ring choice their fiancé has made. And I can't help but wonder if they ever considered what the ring meant to him. Or even the women who tell their potential fiancé exactly what they want and where to get it, not realizing that they may be missing out on a chance to see who he really is and how he would truly express his love.
All I'm saying is, there's a story behind every ring. I hope when you look at yours it symbolizes an amazing choice in your life. I know that's what it means for me.
My rings were made by Jewler by Design in Murrieta, CA.
