"For all of us, becoming indigenous to a place means living as if your children's future mattered, to take care of the land as if our lives, both material and spiritual, depended on it." - Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
"A HEART is not judged by how much you LOVE, but by how much YOU ARE LOVED by others." - TinMan (L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz) On December 29th, 2016, my cousin and friend, Joyce Noma'aea passed away. I'm grateful that for the last year of her life Joyce was able to live just a mile down the road from me with her two daughters Ulu and Toki. She had been waiting for a heart transplant and despite her health condition, she maintained a positive and uplifting spirit and was always spread love wherever she went. This was evidenced by the many, many people from all over the place that travelled to her funeral in Las Vegas on Jan. 13 & 14. Joyce was full of life, love, laughter, and happiness and truly taught us how to #LiveJOYCEfully Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease. In honor of February's National Heart Month Erana & I are wearing our "Endless Love" leggings and #LiveJOYCEfully shirts to both pay tribute to our beautiful cousin and to encourage everyone to check out The American Heart Association's Website for helpful tips and practices that can decrease the risk of heart disease. We love you Joyce!
